Our Statement

DISC Village’s expert prevention and intervention techniques can help mitigate the effects of trauma for children, families, and individuals through our emphasis on delivering Trauma-Informed Care across all programs. Below is the Trauma-Informed Care Philosophy statement that is in place for our continuum of care.

Short Version

DISC Village recognizes how widespread traumatic experiences are in our society and how those experiences impact one’s overall health and well-being. Trauma impacts all of us: our coworkers, those we serve, and ourselves personally. As a result, we must treat everyone with the care that assumes they may have experienced trauma. With that in mind, DISC Village operates with a trauma informed philosophy that embraces the principles of safety, trustworthiness, choice, collaboration, and empowerment, guiding us towards our mission of strengthening families and promoting individual well-being.

Long Version

DISC Village recognizes how widespread traumatic experiences are in our society and how those experiences impact one’s overall health and well-being. Trauma impacts all of us: our coworkers, those we serve, and ourselves personally. As a result, we must treat everyone with the care that assumes they may have experienced trauma. With that in mind, DISC Village operates with a trauma informed philosophy that embraces the Five Primary Trauma-Informed Care Guiding Principles identified by Fallot and Harris (2006):

We recognize each of these different forms of diversity and the importance of creating an environment in which all of our employees feel valued, included, and empowered. We recognize that each employee’s individualized experiences lend to diverse perspectives and viewpoints that add value to our organization’s mission. In an effort to do this better, DISC Village will continue working to review aspects of the agency that relate to operations and staff engagement.
